DOG RESCUED FROM HOT BELLEVILLE CAR 6/19/2017 7:36:00 AM
The Ontario SPCA is reminding pet owners about the dangers of leaving your pets in your car during the hot summer days.
Inspector Brandon James says if you see a pet in a car, you do what these witnesses did and contact someone and not break open the window.
He adds that dogs can't sweat like people do, so they have a very short period of time in the heat before they're affected.
Instead, James says you should just leave your pet at home.
Belleville Police were sent out on Sunday at around 2:30 p.m. after a destressed dog was reported inside of a vehicle at the Quinte Mall.
Police seized the dog and were taking the animal to the Humane Society but were met by the dog owner. The owner was cautioned with respect to the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act section pertaining to causing an animal distress.
He says if you are at a shopping centre, you should have someone page the owner of the car, stay with the car, and call police.
You can also contact the SPCA at 310-7722.
