HABITAT SAYS NORTHUMBERLAND FACING HOUSING CRISIS
10/6/2017 5:31:21 AM

Habitat for Humanity is doing its part in the midst of what it says is an affordable housing crisis in Northumberland County. The organization kicked-off its fifth and final home build of the year in Brighton on Monday also known as World Habitat Day. Executive Director Meaghan Macdonald says 2,500 local families currently need affordable housing, a wait list that can last up to five years.

She says Habitat and homeshare through the Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre are just some of the programs working to address the issue. Macdonald adds that County agencies are available to help find accomodations and new affordable housing developments are always needed.
