LOCAL HEALTH UNIT FOCUSES ON MENTAL HEALTH
10/6/2017 7:57:14 AM

There's no health without mental health. That's the message being highlighted from the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge Health Unit. This message is especially importat at work, they say. The month of October is Healthy Workplace Month, supporting mental health at work. Local organizations are being encouraged to support the mental health of their staff. Lisa Van Der Vinne, a health promote with HKPR, says when you support an employee's mental health, you're also making a valuable investment that can pay off in many ways. According to the Mental health Commission of Canada, 1 in 5 Canadians will experience a mental health problem or illness, costing the economy more than $50 billion. With statistics like this, she says it makes a strong case for implementing programs and policies that support workplace mental health. She adds that workplaces are encouraged to think of mental health in the same way they do with other health and safety issues.
