A new book is celebrating the incredible contributions of grandmothers, during the Aids crisis in Africa. The community is invited to a free event at Loyalist College next month, launching "Powered by Love: A Grandmothers' Movement to End Aids in Africa." Special guest speakers include the book's photographer, several grandmothers from Africa and representatatives from the Stephen Lewis Foundation and Grandmothers Against Poverty and Aids. Sandra Valks with Quinte Grannies for Africa says sharing the stories shows how much these grandmothers can do with so few resources.

It's happening on Nov. 2 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Alumni Hall. Doors open at 6 p.m. and books will be for sale on-site, through Chapters Belleville. The next Quinte Grannies for Africa meeting is Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at St. Thomas' Anglican Church in downtown Belleville. Everyone is welcome.
