NORTHUMBERLAND SEES SPIKE IN RESPIRATORY ILLNESS
1/11/2018 10:34:01 AM

It's flu season and we're seeing an increase in respiratory illness among Northumberland seniors. Peterborough Public Health declared an influenza outbreak last Thursday. The HKPR Health Unit says although our rates aren't quite as high, we're seeing a spike in outbreaks at long-term care homes throughout our community. Manager of Communicable Disease Prevention and Control Marianne Rock says no cases have been reported as severe.

She says simple tips like hand-washing, coughing into your sleeve instead of your hand and staying home when you're sick - can go a long way in help stop the spread of germs. No community-wide outbreak has been declared in Northumberland County.
