GOOD FOOX BOX SEEING GROWTH AT NEW TRENTON DEPOT
1/12/2018 9:17:27 AM

A group dedicated to ending food insecurity across Quinte is seeing growth in one program that helps address the issue. The Community Development Council of Quinte's Good Food Box provides fresh produce at half the cost of retail, from Trenton to Tyendinaga, Belleville to Bancroft. The program is open to everyone regardless of income, focusing on rural communities where fresh fruits and vegetables are expensive or unavailable. The CDCQ does 1,000 boxes per month. Staff and volunteers provided nearly 14,000 boxes in 2016, with that number expected to grow in 2017. Executive Director Ruth Ingersoll says they're pleased to see more demand in what they call 'food deserts' across our community.

The Good Baby Box also provides essentials for parents of babies up to 2-years-old. Volunteers for both programs are always needed.
