VICTIM IDENTIFIED AFTER BODY FOUND NEAR COBOURG BEACH
5/11/2018 8:27:17 AM

We now know the identity of the man who was recovered from Lake Ontario, off Cobourg's west beach. But investigators are asking for the public's assistance in tracing his last movements. Northumberland OPP responded to a call for help that was received around 6 p.m. Two people said they saw one person disappear in the water just off Pebble Beach. The Cobourg Fire Department and the Canadian Coast Guard attended with their marine vessels and began the search for the male who was no longer visible. A short time later, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre from 8 Wing Trenton attended with a helicopter to assist in the search efforts. Two hours later the crew of a helicopter spotted a person in the water, resulting in their recovery of a male approximately 200 metres off shore. Ryan John-Roger Zinke, 32, of Cobourg, was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital with no vital signs and was pronounced deceased. He's described as Caucasian, five feet eight inches tall, 145 pounds with a thin build. Investigators are asking for your assistance in tracing his last movements. He was last seen wearing athletic shorts, no shirt and was known to frequent the Cobourg beach area. Anyone with information is asked to contact Police or Crimestoppers. Rescue activity closed areas along the waterfront and the south end of Ontario Street.
