May 6 to the 12 is Emergency Preparedness Week.

It's a national awareness initiative that provides a good opportunity for families to look over ther 72-hour emergency kit.

Brighton Fire Chief Rick Caddick, says there's lots to keep in mind when preparing an emergency kit.

Things that should be included are a flashlight, spare batteries, a first-aid kit, cash, non-perishable food, a can opener, 4-litres of bottled water per person per day, blankets, personal items, a whistle and entertainment activities.

You should also think of of keeping a roadside safety kit in your vehicle in case you were to get stranded in your car. You can learn more at emergencymanagementontario.ca.
