6/13/2018 3:50:53 PM

Northumberland OPP are investigating an incident that lead to a hold and secure at three local schools this (June 13th) morning.

Just after 9:30 am police responded to reports of a break and enter in progress at a residence in the south end of Brighton.

Witnesses reported that a male entered a home brandishing what appeared to be a handgun, then fled on foot prior to police arrival.

As a result, local area schools were placed under a hold and secure, and a train stop was put in effect, which has since been lifted.

A suspect search was conducted with the assistance of the OPP Emergency Response Team following officers arrival to the scene, and a man matching the description of the accused was then found nearby. He is currently under investigation.

In an online statement earlier today, the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board said that the hold and secure had come to an end at Brighton Public School, ENSS and Spring Valley PS.

They added that all students and staff are fine and the day continued running as normal.

Police say the investigation continues and more details will be released, once information is available.
