HEALTH UNIT WARNS OF BLUE-GREEN ALGAE
7/12/2018 6:36:13 AM

Our local health unit is warning of possible blue-green algae, as many of us choose to enjoy the summer season on local waterways. Hastings Prince Edward Public Health says the dangrous blooms can be found in different colours - from olive green to red - in shallow, slow-moving local waters. Some can release toxins that irriate eyes, ears, nose throats, lungs and skin. The health unit is joining forces with the Federation of Ontario Cottagers' Associations, the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte and Ministry of Environment and Climate Change. They're asking people to avoid the blooms, if spotted.
