There has been many cancellations, closures and postponing in Northumberland in response to COVID-19 concerns.

>All public schools in Ontario will be closed for an additional two weeks after March break in an attempt to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus. The break was due to begin on Saturday, March 14th, and will now continue to April 5th.
>The Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) Annual General Meeting in Toronto that was scheduled to take place March 14th to 16th in Toronto, has been postponed. OECTA will continue to monitor information related to COVID-19 and advise members accordingly.
>Cook’s School Daycare will keep families updated on any developments as they occur. Cook’s is waiting on direction from the the County and Province – expected later today (Mar 13) and Cook’s board of directors is meeting Monday (Mar 16). They will update as soon as any new information is available.
>Therapeutic Paws of Canada (TPOC) has decided to cancel all visits from their Therapy Pets in response to COVID-19 being an emerging public health issue. Effective immediatley (Mar 10) until at least April 1st. It comes down to working with and visiting some of the most vulnerable population in retirement homes, schools, hospitals etc., so TPOC decided to take a proactive stance to ensure that they do not play a part in the spread of this virus.
>The Northumberland Branch of St. John’s Ambulance says at this moment their Therapy Dogs are still visiting throughout Northumberland County (we also were in touch with Pineridge Vetinary Clinic in Cobourg, who says as of right now there is no evidence that shows that animals can get the virus)
>Temporary closure of Marie Dressler Museum until April 25th, as a health precaution.
>Northumberland YMCA Wing Fling Postponed event that was scheduled for March 21st
>Eddy & The Stingrays at the Cobourg Lions Club (with all proceeds to Ed’s House) will be postponed to October 24th (was scheduled for March 21st)
>All of Cobourg’s Municipal Events, Programs and Classes Postponed but Municipal buildings remain open but social distancing is encouraged. As of Friday, March 13th, all Town-events, programs and classes taking place at the Cobourg Community Centre, Concert Hall at Victoria Hall, Fire Hall Theatre, Venture13 Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre and Victoria Hall will be postponed effective immediately. This includes all classes, recreational programs, facility spaces, March Break camps, gymnasiums, rinks and walking spaces. All Municipal buildings will remain open but citizens are discouraged from gathering in them. All Local Advisory Committee Meetings will be postponed. The Municipal Council Meeting will still be taking place on Monday, March 16th but citizens are not encouraged to attend if they don’t need to and encouraged instead to watch the LIVE stream on the Town’s YouTube channel.
>>The CCC will be closed as of 8am on Friday March 13th, 2020 until further notice. This closure includes cancellation of any and all room rentals, programs, classes, use of the Walking Track, ice rentals as well as March Break Camp. We will be issuing full refunds for all payments that have been received for cancelled programs.
>The Municipality of Port Hope says that at this time (Mar 13), municipal facilities remain open and scheduled programming has not been cancelled or postponed and that staff are enhancing cleaning and disinfection protocols and continue to monitor the situation very closely. >The Northumberland United Way office is asking for support to help overtaxed essential social services in Northumberland County. As school, office and organization closures continues, The United Way is preparing for the inevitable increased pressure on Community Partners who provide shelter, food, mental health supports, and unfunded health related items. Although the provincial and federal government is working quickly to support enhanced diagnostic and treatment efforts in healthcare, United Way and many local social service programs continue to rely on the generosity of local donors. The organization will be working closely with all not-for-profits in Northumberland County over the coming weeks to respond where support is needed most. United Way Northumberland is asking that donations be made either by mail or online at: 62 Swayne Street, Cobourg, ON., K9A 1K5 OR at www.mynuw.org.
>The Capitol Theatre in Port Hope will proceed with scheduled performances, activities, or programs within the theatre in line with essential public health precautions. Staff and volunteers are well prepared to ensure that the basic provisions are closely observed.
>Fr Keith Joyce, priest of St Paul’s Anglican Church in Brighton says that their worship services for March 15th are cancelled. Additionally, all future services and gatherings at St Paul’s are cancelled until further notice.
