Below dispatch is from United Way Northumberland dated April 08th.
Despite all that is happening in the world today, Northumberland County has once again proven that we take care of one another. It is with great excitement that we announce that we have surpassed the campaign goal of $850,000 set in September of last year.
Our fundraising season began last April and started with an amazing donation from Cameco Corporation who kick-started our Campaign off with a corporate donation recognizing our 50th Anniversary. Shortly after that the CANTASTIC 4 set out to travel across the USA in support of United Way – winning their age category for the race and making Northumberland proud. Day of Caring brought out 175 volunteers looking to support our community by completing projects throughout Northumberland. Next was the Ladies’ Only Golf Tournament and the launch of our campaign goal at the 20th Annual Dragon Boat Festival. From there, the Angus Read Estate generously sponsored the 50th Anniversary Challenge which raised over $125,000, followed by a multi-year commitment from the Kaitlyn Bates Initiative that brought in $16,000 this year alone. Over the past year we saw the incredible generosity of individuals, businesses, employees and partners who all came together working on a common goal; to make Northumberland County a great place for everyone.
A final tally of fundraising dollars has revealed that you, the people of Northumberland County, have raised $852,455.94! We did it, Northumberland! Congratulations to all of you who have come together to ensure the continuation of essential local programs and services right here at home.
It was clear throughout our campaign that the residents of Northumberland County really care about making our community great for everyone. This continues to be most clearly evidenced by the community response to COVID-19. So many partners and residents have come forward to support those most vulnerable in our community by providing emergency shelter, food, medical supplies, and a general helping hand at all hours of the day and night. Facebook groups, regular conference calls, and a plethora of online chat groups have been taking place by professionals and concerned citizens, with one main mission in mind, the health and well-being of each and every person in Northumberland County.
Although the provincial and federal governments will continue to support the not-for-profit sector, we know that this funding will not meet all of the need. As United Way is the largest funder of social services outside of government, United Way Northumberland continues to raise funds through our COVID-19 Community Relief Fund to support those essential services in our community that are under added pressure. Thank you to those of you who have donated to the Northumberland United Way COVID-19 Relief Fund. Every dollar makes a difference.
As we move through the next few weeks and months and the new world becomes clearer to us all, United Way will be there for the residents of Northumberland County when we are needed most. Why? Because United Way is built by people like you who have an unrelenting commitment to every person in our community.
