Nearly 140 factory workers in Quinte West face being out of a job in June, when Sonoco Products Company closes its local operations.
In a news release, U.S. based Sonoco says it is investing in its operations in South Carolina and closing its recycled paperboard plant in Trenton. The Trent Valley site currently owned and operated by Sonoco has been in existence for well over a century.
Listed on the New York Stock Exchange, Sonoco was founded in the United States in 1899 as The Southern Novelty Company before changing its name to Sonoco in 1923 as the company continued to diversify its operations and grow globally
