United Way Hastings & Prince Edward, in partnership with the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program is increasing the capacity of organizations providing services to seniors across the community.
The funding is intended to support programs that focus on seniors (55+) impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic to respond to immediate, urgent local needs by supporting basic needs such as food, cleaning, and hygiene products including delivery; reduced social isolation, and/or support for community service organizations to maintain or enhance services such as volunteer and staff retention.
Locally, $68,000 was disbursed across the region ensuring that every corner of HPE has increased capacity to care for seniors in their community. Funding was allocated to Community Care South Hastings, Care North Hastings, Community Care Central Hastings, VON in Quinte West, Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Assoc. to provide services such as hot and frozen meals on wheels, reassurance checks and grocery delivery, as well as to Bancroft Community Transit and United Way HPE who are providing grocery delivery services to seniors in their area.
United Way HPE also launched the Coronavirus Covid-19 Community Response Fund in March and has raised over $50,000 to date. The agency has deployed funds to North Hastings Community Cupboard, Community Care Central Hastings, North Hastings Community Trust, Bancroft Community Transit, Care North Hastings, Abigails Learning Centre, Trenton Military Resource Centre, VON, and Loyalist College Foundation to assist with the food needs of their students.
