It’s Vanderlaan Building Productsʼ Community Builders Day and we are profiling Lindsey Edwards and her involvement as a fundraiser, both locally and across Canada.
Lindsey went to great lengths to support, advocate, and fundraise for Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre when she trekked 100 kilometers across the Sahara Desert with Royal LePage Canada and the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation, all in an effort to help women and children under the care of our local shelters who are escaping domestic violence.
As one of 120 trekkers nationwide, Lindsey raised $37,500, finishing as the second highest fundraiser in Canada.
And in January, presented a cheque for $30,000 to Cornerstone, supporting 240 nights of safety in the shelter.
In turn, Cornerstone dedicated their Resource Centre Group Room in her name. She does wish that there was more time in the day so she could give more to this community as she knows it is what makes Northumberland thrive.
Lindsey’s advice is to figure out where you donate your time – that you don’t have to just go with one organization, to be fluid and support where you’re needed most.
So, you’d think that Lindsey was from Northumberland with all that she gives to our community. But she was actually born and raised in Oshawa and 20 years ago moved to Northumberland with her then husband and raised their two kids here. After she moved here, her family followed. Her oldest sister owns the Local Bloom and her younger sister works for Rebound Child and Youth Services. She is super thankful for her two nieces and the love and closeness of her Mom and Dad, that also now live just down the road And there’s been no looking back for her! She says she can’t see herself anywhere else but Northumberland and is looking forward to her wedding with her fiancé, who owns Herc’s Nutrition in Cobourg. As she adores it, she plans to have everything locally sourced for their wedding, practicing what she preaches of supporting local! The COVID-19 pandemic has put a damper on their 2020 date, but she says there’s always next summer.
She had a lot more goals and plans for fundraising this year, but, again, in the wake of what is happening in the world, plans changed. But she adds to watch for some fun, surprise ways she plans to give back, including the selling of “Local as Heck” or “Local AF” shirts (details below).
