Welling Beach on Wellington Bay just northeast of Sand Banks Provincial Park, is closed today, Friday, June 26th for health reason due to poor water quality.
Hastings Prince Edward Public Health monitors the quality of beach water at designated public beaches within our jurisdiction. Beach water quality is monitored by the collection and analyses of water samples. Samples are analyzed at a public health laboratory for the presence of E.coli bacteria. When E. coli bacteria levels exceed the provincial standard, the beach is considered unsafe for swimming, and a warning notice is issued by HPEPH.
Additional information, including a list of public beaches currently safe for swimming, is available on the Public Beach Reports section at hpePublicHealth.ca. Updated beach reports will be posted on the Friday of each week throughout beach monitoring season.
