Submitted by Trenton Rotary Club – July 14th
The Rotary Club of Trenton has elected a veteran member of its organization to the position of President for the club’s 99th year. On July 6th, outgoing President Frank Meiboom passed the torch (virtually via ZOOM) to incoming President Grant Southwell, a member of Rotary in good-standing since 1968! This is Southwell’s 3rd time serving as a Club President.
Over the past 52 years, Southwell has contributed to numerous Rotary successes at the local, regional, and international level. Among his many accomplishments, Southwell is celebrated for his contributions in organizing the very 1st Rotaract Club in Canada by helping the Rotaract Club of Oshawa to establish its charter in early 1968.
The Club also welcomed several members to positions on its Board of Directors for the 2020-21 Rotary year including: Past President Frank Meiboom, President-Elect Sandi Ramsay, Vice President Kristian Himberg-Larsen, Secretary Jeremy Taft, Treasurer Kim Lee and Directors – Joelle Briggs-Sears, Anthony Callaghan, Chris Gates, Carl Eggiman, Chris Foreman, and Deborah Murray.
Currently, the Rotary Club of Trenton is focusing its community service efforts on supporting the contributions of local “front line” workers during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis by providing weekly coffee-time refreshments to staff and volunteers at Trenton Memorial Hospital. While this effort has been extremely well-received the Club is keen to do more.
“Fundraising for many worthwhile causes is a demanding challenge in the current pandemic environment,” says Southwell. “We are considering many potential new projects that can be undertaken within the existing rules of social distancing and large group assembly, and hope to roll out innovative plans for these in the coming months.”
The Rotary Club of Trenton has a rich and long-standing history in the Quinte West region. In Spring 2022, the Club will celebrate its 100th Anniversary!
“Despite these unprecedented and unpredictable times, our determined members are dedicated to the improvement of lives for those living in the City of Quinte West and beyond, and to joining other Rotary Clubs globally in efforts that make our world a better place to live,” adds Southwell.
