Oldies 100.9 news presents the Vanderlaan Building Excellent Educators Day, profiling outstanding leaders in our community.
Jared Storms has been a teacher at St. Paul’s Secondary School in Trenton since 2007.
Storms currently teachers English and physical education for grades 9-12 (the school is part of the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board.) He says he enjoys teaching, since every day is a new experience and a chance to help inspire students, adding that several of his family members have also worked in education.
As a physical education teacher, Storms says he enjoys teaching his students the importance of healthy living, sports, exercise and staying active each day. He adds that teaching English also allows him to help his students discover new books and reading materials that they might not have discovered outside of the classroom.
Storms says the school has quickly adapted to online learning and new kinds of technology, during the COVID-19 pandemic. He says he’s looking forward to returning to the classroom in-person in Trenton, once COVID-19 health and safety protocols allow.
