Oldies 100.9 news presents the Vanderlaan Building Excellent Educators Day, profiling outstanding leaders in our community.
For the last 10 years, Linsey Cashin has been a Grade 8 Art Teacher at Dale Road Public School in Cobourg and a recent cancer survivor.
She was born in England and explains that’s where she was educated and started her career.
Over 20 years ago she moved to Canada permanently to start her career in the KPR District School Board at South Monaghan School in 1999.
She says it’s rewarding to see the students learning journey over the school year.
Cashin says the pandemic has changed teaching for many – for her, the focus and passion is in the arts and to now have to teach all subjects online, she admits it has been difficult – both for herself and her students – but says working online she has seen it as a real benefit for some students.
She says the last year hasn’t just been difficult because of the pandemic…a routine surgery resulted in a cancer diagnosis for Cashin.
She says that if you want to be an educator, your heart really needs to be in it.
She says her past educator’s continue to inspire her.
Cashin tells us more.
