Melissa and Jeremy Dean, owners of Just Like Granny’s bakery at 40 Prince Edward St. in Brighton, hosted a community Christmas meal in winter 2020, providing close to 200 free meals (with COVID-19 protocols in-effect,) for anyone who needed a holiday meal last year.
The Christmas dinners provided a healthy meals for local residents, many that were spending the holidays alone.
For Easter 2021, the bakery volunteered to be a drop-off location for donations and supplies, needed to create 115 baskets for residents in local long-term care and retirement homes. Volunteers helped to deliver the baskets to three locations, to help make Easter special for seniors in the Brighton area, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The business is well-known in the community, for supporting many local initiatives and charitable events, over the years. Melissa and Jeremy say their family plans to continue providing Christmas meals at their bakery this year, since the initiative received so much support for the community.
