The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Health Canada have announced the recall of Zucchini products sold at several well-known Ontario grocery chains.
Veg Pak Produce is recalling Harvest Fresh brand Zucchini Spirals due to possible Listeria contamination.
“Consumers should not consume the recalled product,” the warning states. “Check to see if you have the recalled product in your home. If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, call your doctor. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.”
Parent company Metro confirmed that the product was sold at Metro and Food Basics locations, but it has been pulled from shelves.
Food contaminated with Listeria may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick.
Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk, the CFIA said.
This recall was triggered by CFIA test results and the CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.
