Two people remain in a Toronto hospital with serious injuries following an explosion at a cement plant in the Picton area.
The Prince Edward County Fire & Rescue were called to the reported natural gas explosion at the Lehigh Cement Company near Picton early Tuesday morning, Sept. 7. Three people received injuries in the blast and were transported to Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital in Picton.
According to Fire Chief Robert Rutter, the two people who suffered serious injuries were transported via air ambulance to a Toronto hospital, while the other person has been released from local hospital.
Chief Rutter confirmed the Ministry of Labour and the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshall are currently at the site as of Wednesday afternoon investigating the incident.
