The Brighton Fire Department is all smiles after being presented a cheque for just over $7,900 from the Brighton’s Tim Hortons owner and staff.
For the week, from September 13 – 19, the Brighton Tim Horton’s donated the full $1 from every chocolate chunk Smile Cookie purchased at its location as part of a nationwide campaign to support charities in their community.
The Smile Cookie campaign began in 1996 as a way to help raise funds for the Hamilton Children’s Hospital in Ontario and has grown to become a major fundraising event at Tim Hortons Restaurants in Canada. The 2021 Smile Cookie campaign raised a record of $10.56 million in one week for 550 charities, hospitals and community groups across Canada.
In Brighton, the Tim Hortons location raised $7,901.20 through sales and donations.
We spoke with Chief Jim Smith.
Smith says he wants to thank everyone who purchased a smile cookie this year for their ongoing support to the community.
Complete with custom graphics, this Pop-Up Shelter will be taken on calls which will offer protection from the elements during inclement weather and used for special events too.” For more information about the Smile Cookie Campaign visit www.timhortons.ca or for more information about the Brighton Fire Department visit www.brighton.ca/en/living-here/fire-and-emergency-services.aspx.
