Christmas cheer was spread around to those living in area long-term care homes — one poinsettia at a time.
Brighton’s Oldies 100.9 FM account executive Gerry Drage and reporter Alan Rivett delivered the traditional Christmas flowers to appreciative staff at the Maplewood Long-Term Care Home in Brighton as well as to the Trent Valley Lodge Long-Term Care Home in Trenton on Tuesday morning, Dec. 7.
Staff at the two LTC homes will then offer them to seniors to enjoy through the Christmas season.
Drage said Oldies 100.9 FM partnered with Rene’s Total Home Comfort in Campbellford and Brighton to make the poinsettia giving a reality. Drage said he’s asked those in charge of the homes to distribute them to seniors who perhaps won’t see a lot of people during the holidays “to brighten up their Christmas”.
Ten poinsettias were accepted first by staff members at Maplewood in Brighton, who were effusive in their thanks for the flowers for the residents. Tracy Moorwood, the home’s Nutritional Care Manager, accepted some of the poinsettias and posed for a photo to mark the occasion.
Then, it was off to Trenton, to drop off 10 more poinsettia plants to be enjoyed by seniors at Trent Valley Lodge.
Rebecca Briscoe, Director of Care at Trent Valley Lodge, was one of several staff who offered kind words for the delivery of poinsettias for the residents.
“This is a lovely gesture and it’s definitely going to bring some happiness into our home,” she said. “Flowers definitely brighten people’s days so we’re very grateful. Thank you.”
