Caroline Birch has lived in Brighton for most of her young life. She’s been active in the community, her Peace Medallion and Brighton Junior Citizen of the Year Award bare quiet testament to her commitment to her community. She was also President of the Kingston Chapter of SWAM Canada and more recently the Executive Director of Queen’s Explore Workshops & Summer Camps programs.
If you’d asked Caroline Birch what she’d be doing this year when she started at Queens University back in 2015, she would have said teaching.
“I originally thought I wanted to be a teacher so I applied to the Queen’s Co-Ed program right out of high school”.
Online learning during COVID was not the environment Caroline wanted to teach in.
“I knew that I wouldn’t be doing a good job as a teacher because I didn’t like the online environment”.
So she decided that since the world was on hold it’d be a good time to try something different.
After some post graduate work in Public Relations and Event Management at Loyalist and an internship with the Bay of Quinte, Caroline found she’d come to love tourism and destination marketing. Last summer she accepted a position with the Municipality of Brighton as a Digital Support Specialist and now works as the Economic Development Coordinator.
Caroline’s advice for people is, “Believe that you can make a difference, no matter how small it is”.
