Chances are you’ve already heard of Chace Xavier, a grade seven student at Terry Fox Public School in Cobourg. Last year, Chace was busy fundraising for Ed’s House Hospice posting his challenges on Facebook which included taking a mud bath, getting a pie in the face, having his hair dyed blue, being covered in slim, and doing a fashion show with his street as the runway. It all culminated in having his head shaved on his 12th birthday.
Chace was first inspired by a Cops for Cancer fundraiser at his old school and the fun things they did in support of The Canadian Cancer Society. “…in between things they’d have acts and activities like ice cream challenges,” Chace said, “…it was just a really fun experience”. Last year Chace raised forty-three hundred dollars.
This year, Chace is at it again. For every five hundred dollars raised, Chace will perform a new challenge on Facebook Live and his first challenge, “The first challenge is going to be me wearing a dress to school all day”.
Chace’s advice to those who are facing challenges in their lives is, “Stick with their gut. It will always end up succeeding…and do what you feel is right”.
The future, as this soon-to-be teenager would like to see it, will include perhaps a baseball scholarship. Chase told us if pro-ball doesn’t work out, he’d like to be a child therapist. “I can help children who’re having a little bit of difficulty with literally anything and that would help me feel better about myself, being able to help others”.
