Maggie Torrance is a student at Campbellford District High School and a lifelong hockey player. She’s played with the Cold Creek Comets girls team, and most recently the team won the 25th Annual Brampton Cougars Friendship Festival tournament held this past Family Day weekend. Her youth hockey career is behind her now, but she’ll certainly lace up the skates again as soon as she can.
Maggie also helped organize a bottle drive at her school to raise money that would go toward lowering the overall cost of a ticket for every person. That way more people would have the opportunity to go to prom.
She said that a lot of uncertainty in the world in general has made it harder for young people to create opportunities for themselves that may have existed in the past.
When it comes to who has helped her along the way, she said she’s had many family and friends that have helped her become the person she is today.
When asked what she would recommend to anyone her age trying to figure out what they should do after high school, Maggie said it helps to be adaptable and trust your instincts. She added that you can always adjust what you’re doing and there’s always room to change if you find something that might be more for you.
Next year she said she was accepted to Durham College to study Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist assistant, no doubt following her athletic nature. She said initially she considered taking something in business for post secondary, but after taking a Kinesiology class she changed her mind. She said the hands on nature of it really appealed to her to the point she thought it would be an interesting career to pursue.
