East Northumberland Secondary School track and field athletes posted strong efforts at the East Regional Track and Field Championships in Ottawa on May 26 and 27.
Brighton’s ENSS Blue Dragons track and field team, which has been enjoying great success this year since the program was re-instated after two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, sent 45 athletes to compete against the top athletes from eastern Ontario high schools at the Terry Fox Track and Field Stadium. Seven ENSS athletes recorded top-four performances and qualified to compete at the OFSSA Track and Field Championships at York University on June 2 to 4.
Aidan Molenhuis led the Blue Dragons by qualifying for OFSAA in all three of his individual events. He was third in both the 100m hurdles (16.22 seconds) and the
300m hurdles (46.49s), and fourth in high jump (1.70 metres).
Zaid Wedderburn-Harper was second in the junior boys’ 200 m (24.14s).
Brayden Clarke finished third in junior boys’ long jump (6.10m).
Zack Flatt was third in senior boys’ discus (38.40m).
Jacob Wamboldt was fourth in novice boys’ 300 m hurdles (46.39s).
The ENSS junior boys’ relay team – Braden Clarke, Aidan Fairbank, Kale Shelton and Zaid Wedderburn-Harper – was fourth (47.20s).
