June 8th marked the first time the Northumberland YMCA hoisted the Pride flag to celebrate the diversity of our gender and sexual minority communities including Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, Two-Spirit and more.
The flag went up at noon at the YMCA location in Cobourg.
We spoke to CEO Eunice Kirkpatrick who told us it’s an historic first for the Y.
According to Kirkpatrick, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion need to be top of mind for everyone.
June is recognized as Pride Month in Canada and around the world and it’s a time to celebrate sexual diversity, promote equal rights and build awareness of challenges faced by the LGBTQ2S+ community.
