During last night’s special council meeting on homelessness, members of Cobourg council heard from a variety of voices on the topic.
Ten delegates where on the list to speak to council, all voicing their concerns about the growing portion of the population that is currently experiencing homelessness or living in precarious housing situations.
Council is currently in the process of deciding whether or not to allow a camp to be built to temporarily shelter people who are in need of a place to stay.
However, several delegates who advocated for helping house people noted that setting up something like a tent city will come with many other issues, and doesn’t actually solve the issue of homelessness in the area.
If you want to view the meeting, you can find it on the Town of Cobourg website.
We’ll be staying with this story, so stay tuned as it develops.
