Even though she’s retired, Sharyl Ann Milligan stays busy volunteering five days a week with various groups in Northumberland.
She told us that after she retired, she wanted to keep working with children and thought volunteer work would be a great way to do that.
She volunteers at Northumberland Hills Hospital, and has been doing so for 18 years.
“A friend of mine was involved with the hospital and community care, and got me into delivering meals on wheels,” she said.
In her younger years, Sharyl Ann said she volunteered at a camp for underprivledged youth from Toronto.
She has also been a long time volunteer with the provinical lawn bowling association. Sharyl recently received her 50 year pin from both the national and provincial lawn bowling associations recognizing her long time in the sport.
Part of that has been coaching younger lawn bowlers, some of whom have gone on to have great successes on the national scale.
As for what she was most proud of during her time volunteering, she said it’s just the overall thought of knowing she is there to help.
“I think just knowing that I’m available to individuals who need help, or I’m just there for anyone who needs a little extra time.”
