Cobourg Public Library will host author and former broadcaster Tara McGuire on Wednesday, November 9.
Holden After and Before is a moving meditation on grief that traces Tara McGuire’s excavation and documentation of the life path of her son, Holden, a graffiti artist who died of an accidental opioid overdose at the age of 21.
My Broadcasting Corporation spoke with Tara about the origins of her book.
Beginning with her son’s death, and journeying through time and space, Tara draws on fact, investigation, memory, fantasy and even fabrication in her search for understanding — not only of her son’s tragic death but also of his beautiful life.
Tara told us more about the event which starts at 7 o’clock at the Cobourg Public Library.
The event will be hosted by Let’s Talk Books and Moms Stop the Harm.
According to Tara, the format of her book is somewhat unique as it draws on fact, investigation, memory, fantasy and even fabrication in her search for understanding.
McGuire resides in British Columbia and came to Ontario this week to appear on CTV’s The Social on Monday. She’s also been interviewed by Matt Galloway on The Current and published an op-ed in The Globe and Mail.
Tara will give a reading at the event which starts at 7 pm followed by a Q&A and book signing.
