Would you love a new piece of original art?
The Brighton Arts & Culture Council (BACC) has organized donations of original art from 14 area artists, and these pieces will be hidden around the community for to people to find on March 12th, 2023, in support of International Art and Found Day.
The 3rd Annual International Art and Found Day is a day when thousands of artworks from artists all over the world will be placed within their local communities for neighboring residents to find.
Organizer Surita Hart explained what the event is.
Last year, Hart discovered a love of painting after attending the local Vino and Van Gogh event at the Brighton Legion.
“I along with 50 others, was able to create a finished painting, and I was hooked,” said Hart. “I went to Michaels and bought out the store.”
Learning more and more about painting, Hart came across the work of Courtney Senior, a Toronto artist and founder of the Art and Found day.
“Seven years ago, before Courtney found her footing in the world of selling art, she decided to find loving homes for her work by giving it away for free. She would package up her original artworks and leave them around different neighbourhoods in Toronto for people to find. Each artwork came with a note on the outside that read “Hello, I’m an original abstract painting in need of a loving home. FREE ART #ArtandFound. With this hashtag and personalized note on the inside, people contacted Courtney sharing their excitement and gratitude for their new piece of artwork,” said Hart.
Hart said the effort can be rewarding.
Last year, Hart left some of her own pieces around the community. This year, she along with members of the BACC have organized 14 local artists who are donating their own original pieces in this treasure hunt style on March 12th. The found pieces could be paintings, an object, music, book, photograph or handcrafted item. Items will be hidden in plain sight around Brighton, Gosport, Codrington, Smithfield, Orland, Trenton, and Stirling.
But wait – there are hints!
The artists will give clues on where there pieces will be located on Instagram and Facebook: @brightonartsandculture
Pieces will be in place by 1:00pm on March 12th – so you can follow the clues or you could simply be out for a coffee or walk and spot a package of free Art that will be hidden in plain sight to find.
The BACC wishes to promote all the area talent and culture in all disciplines in Brighton and beyond.
