In order to update the visitor experience at the National Air Force Museum at CFB Trenton, the Board of Directors of the National Air Force Museum Foundation have begun a fundraising campaign to build a new theatre in their building.
That was Susan Scarborough, Board Chair of the National Air Force Museum who told us more about the project.
The Elsie & Norman Cross Theatre will be a valuable tool in educating students from local schools, Military personnel, Air Cadets from across the country, as well as community members, of the past, present, and future endeavours of the Air Force.
“People will also be able to view movies,” said Scarborough. “It will be a place that we can do educational programming, screenings, and conferences. It will definitely be a multi-purpose, family and community event space too.”
It will occupy approximately 2,200 sq. ft., be barrier-free and will seat 125 people.
Kevin Windsor – Executive Director at the National Air Force Museum told us they have a national scope.
The National Air Force Museum opened in 1984 and features historical air artifacts from 1909 until today. They also have been working on the restoration of a Lancaster that arrived from Edmunston, New Brunswick., 5 years ago and they are planning to unveil it in the summer of 2024, and they will be on the only museum that will have a Lancaster and Halifax bomber on display.
“We have new exhibits planned this year,” stated Windsor, “that will include the Afghanistan Conflict and in May, a “Too the Limits” exhibit that will focus on Canadian Aerobatic teams like the Golden Hawks, Snowbirds, and the Skyhawks parachute team.”
The total cost to build the Museum’s new theatre is $800,000.
“We are about halfway there,” added Scarborough. “The campaign is on-going and we appreciate any and all support that the community can offer to this project.”
There are several sponsorship options available but there is an interesting opportunity open to the public.
With a donation of $1,000, the donor’s name, or the name of a relative, or a past or present military member can be inscribed on the back of the seat.
Do you have a relative that served in the military? What a wonderful way to recognize their service, their name inscribed on the back of a seat at the National Air Force Museum. 30% of the seats are sold – so visit Current Projects | NAFMC Foundation | Ontario today to take your seat at the new theatre.
