Brighton Army Cadets Teams Win Medals at Recent Competitions
The Brighton Army Cadets fielded a biathlon and a marksmen team at recent competitions and both teams came away with medals.
Captain Pam Hohner told us about the biathlon team results.
A biathlon team skis at high speed, yet reserves enough energy to hit five targets at the rifle range as fast as possible.
Captain Hohner was proud of the team’s accomplishments, and especially one member in particular.
The Brighton Army Cadets biathlon team all received medals from their recent area competition, 3 members went on the provincials in Sault Ste. Marie and 1 member went on to take a sliver at the Ontario Winter Games.
The marksmen team which has been practicing very hard also came away with medals, placing first in their zone, over 18 teams and are going to regionals in April.
Captain Hohner shared the details.
The Cadet Marksmanship Program is a challenging and competitive sports program accessible to all cadets. It develops skills through high-level training and Olympic-style competition.
The Brighton Army Cadets has a membership of 25, ages 12 to 18 years old, who reside in the Brighton, Colborne and Warkworth areas.
“We lost a few cadets during the COVID period, but our membership is back up to 25,” said Captain Hohner. “Our group has some amazing young adults, and we are always open to recruiting more members to join us.”
The Brighton Army Cadets train at East Northumberland Secondary School (ENSS) on Mondays from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm and potential members and parents are always welcome to drop in to see what the group is doing.
During the spring, the cadets will be learning navigation and orientating skills, and this summer they will be learning camping and canoeing skills.
