When it comes to raising both money and awareness for the YMCA Northumberland’s UpTurn Program, Ryan Huffman is quite literally in the swing of things.
For a second year, the realtor is organizing and presenting a charity golf tournament in support of mental health, addiction and youth in sport initiatives.
Set for May 12th at the Dalewood Golf Club, it’s hoped the 18-hole scramble format event will surpass the $22,368 raised last year.
A lifelong golfer, Huffman says it was a no-brainer to launch what is now an annual golf tournament fundraiser and, as part of that effort, establish the Ryan Huffman Foundation. As for his motivation, the need for money and the means to help others is the driver.
Huffman notes a lot of work goes on behind the scenes organizing and hosting the golf tournament.
Asked his proudest moment as a result of his philanthropy, Huffman says a chance encounter with a man whose son was going through addiction challenges remains front of mind.
