How does music, displays, cake or strawberry shortcake sound? An exciting full day food, music and family activities are planned in Brighton for Canada Day, with events in King Edward Community Centre Park, Memorial Park and Proctor House, thanks to the efforts of local volunteers.
Chair of the Special Events and Civics Committee Lloyd Hutchinson told us there’s lots to keep your kids busy.
The Special Events and Civics committee and the volunteers at Proctor House have been working for months on Canada Day plans and they have some wonderful family focused activities around the Canada Day holiday.
From 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, King Edward Community Centre Park will be the centre of action, with children’s play activities that include: bouncy castles, face painting, a balloon artist, and a fishing pond, with free popcorn and ice cones.
There will be displays from the local Fire Department, OPP and the Brighton Arts and Culture Committee is also setting up art displays.
At 11:00 am, opening ceremonies will take place, with greetings from the Mayor and a flyby by CFB Trenton and of course, after the opening, Canada Day cake will be served up by volunteers. From 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm there will be bands playing under the tent to entertain the crowd with fun music. Also on site, the local Rotary Club, Lions Club, Harry’s Hots and Just Like Grannies will have food concessions set up, ready for you to purchase some summertime favourites.
Don’t forget to swing by Proctor House, they are hosting their annual strawberry social from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm (or while supplies last).
Wait there is more!
Ian Roy will be playing in Memorial Park from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on the amphitheater stage, so bring a blanket or a lawn chair and spend the evening listening to live music.
When it gets dark, approximately (9:30pm /10:00 pm (ish)) there will be fireworks (weather dependent), so bring your lawn chair or blanket back to King Edward Community Centre Park and set it up on the soccer field and watch the show. If you have any questions about the day, visit www.brighton.ca and if you see a volunteer, say thank you for the efforts they are putting in to make Canada Day a special day in the Brighton.
