In 2024, the Royal Canadian Air Force marks its 100th anniversary, celebrating a long partnership with Trenton, Quinte West, and the Bay of Quinte region.
Back in 1929, the government bought land from Trenton, and during World War 2, Trenton hosted the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan.
Trenton is a hub for various RCAF aircraft, including those used by top officials and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, covering a large part of Canada. The 8 Wing/CFB Trenton plays a crucial role in air mobility operations, from Arctic supply deliveries to global troop transportation.
In the 2023-24 hockey season, the Trenton Golden Hawks Jr A Hockey Club honors the RCAF and its history. They wear blue and white jerseys, with white ones auctioned off to support Soldier On, an organization aiding veterans with physical and mental health challenges.
Trenton’s goalie, Ben Bonisteel, will support veterans by donating $0.50 for each save during the regular season to VETS Canada.
Graphic designer Ryan Isbister matches this pledge, urging others to do the same. Sandra Hussey, a veteran, and others in the community are also contributing, showing their gratitude and support for the military and veterans.
