Don’t be scared, Northumberland. Monsters only exist on the big screen.
Makeup artist Randy Daudlin does a great job at making fantastical beasts feel real. At the end of the month, Cobourg will see him “do his thing” work live.
Presented by Film Access Northumberland, “Reel Creatures,” includes two events featuring the creator to coincide with Comicon 2023. First, they’ll be holding a live monster makeup demo on September 30.
Randy, who will be performing in the live demo, has worked on pop cultural phenomena such as Amazon Prime’s The Boys, What We Do in The Shadows, The Strain, and even Netflix’s Ginny and Georgia– Which was shot in Cobourg.
Randy says he visited briefly for Ginny and Georgia, but nearly forgot he’d already been to Cobourg.
Originally from Chatham, Randy left behind the small town life to pursue a career in art. Randy has since built a career from creating fantasy, horror, and gore facial prosthetics in film and TV.
Randy says even the actors find it gross.
As a big monster movie fan, Randy is used to decking out a person’s face in prosthetics and gore. Although for Cobourg Comicon, he’s toning down the viscera.
Randy told Go Northumberland News what he was thinking of designing.
Cobourg Comicon is coming to the Cobourg Community Centre, where Randy will be creating on-stage from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Afterwards, Randy will head to Venture13 to hold a viewing and panel for his creature film, Bottom Feeder at 7 p.m.
