If you’re wondering, “Where’s this guy buying his Thanksgiving bird?”, let me set you straight. The Golden Drumstick (of which there are only 11 in existence) is the prize for the person who most exemplifies and embraces the spirit of Thanksgiving, showing “The Greatest Turkey Spirit” at the Northumberland Turkey Trot taking place at YMCA Northumberland in Cobourg on Monday, October 9th.
Turkey Trot’s Rod Simpson told us he’s not above a little friendly bribery.
This year marks the eleventh running of the annual Turkey Trot in support of the Y’s Strong Communities Campaign. The day begins with registration at 8:30 am followed by a race for the youngest participants, appropriated called the ‘Gobble Wobble’.
Simpson tells us that for most folks, Thanksgiving can be a busy time with family coming together to celebrate. Often families are looking for something to do that will let them get outdoors for some exercise and enjoy the fall colours.
Simpson tells us, the Turkey Trot is an event that will allow you to enjoy all the gastronomic delights that come with Thanksgiving, but without any guilt.
Following the Gobble Wobble, a 1 km race will take place for kids over 4-years-old and finally just after 10 am there’s a 2.5 km run/walk and a 5 km run.
Simpson told us that supporting the YMCA’s Strong Community Campaign for the last eleven years was an easy decision as the Y does so much to help the community and those who wouldn’t otherwise have access to their services.
Rod told us they’re expecting another great turn out this year with close to 200 individuals and families on hand for the event.
