Quinte West will be getting a facelift once the city firms up plans to distribute $25,000 from the province.
MPP Todd Smith, who spoke on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, spoke at the announcement.
They said that the City of Quinte West received this through the Ontario Rural Economic Development (RED) program. The RED program helps rural areas grow and make strong communities. Quinte West will use this money along with some of their own to make a plan to improve the tourism and downtown areas.
Linda Lisle, Manager of Economic Development and Tourism, is happy about this funding. She says it will help the city make its downtown areas better and become a tourism spot. They will also change their old plan for downtown areas and bring in new programs to help businesses.
In 2005, the city made the first plan for its downtown areas. This plan gave money to businesses to improve their buildings in Trenton and Frankford. They gave over $600,000 to help businesses since then. The city will update this plan to keep giving money to businesses and attract more investment in Quinte West. But, they won’t take new applications for the old plan until the new one starts in spring 2024.
