In February 2021, Ontario shut down the Brookside Youth Centre after it served the community for over 70 years.
The property, spanning 14 buildings and approximately 30 acres of land, was transferred to Infrastructure Ontario in January 2022.
During this transition, MPP David Piccini briefed Cobourg Council on the decommissioning process, which included stages such as assessing government interest, evaluating interest from the public sector, municipalities, nonprofits, and finally, considering private sector involvement.
Currently, Infrastructure Ontario has listed the property for sale at $9.1 million.
