Quinte West OPP say a Belleville resident is facing sexual assault and child pornography-related charges after an investigation.
On Monday, March 4, police issued a brief release about the investigation.
On March 2, 2024, Quinte West OPP, including members of the crime unit, with the assistance of Belleville Police Service, executed a search warrant resulting in the arrest of an individual in relation to a sexual assault investigation, said police.
As a result, police said a 21-year-old resident from Belleville was charged with: Sexual interference (person under 16 years of age); sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age; makes, prints, publishes or possesses for the purpose of publication any child pornography, and possession of child pornography.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville, said police.
The accused will not be identified to protect the identity of the victim, said police.
Victims of assault are not alone, added police.
