This year will be the 42nd Annual Float Your Fanny Down the Ganny in Port Hope and it will be a unique running of the annual prelude to spring with the addition of a “Floaty” category that is replacing the Crazy Craft division this year due to the Sylvan Bridge reconstruction taking place.
The event will take place on April 13, with the canoes and kayaks running from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. in Canton and the new Floaty category starting in Optimist Park between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m.
Event co-chairs Barry Adamson and Barrileigh Price sat down with Classic Rock 107.9’s York Bell Smith and gave us the scoop on what to expect this year.
Online registration will be available until Friday night (April 10), however you can still register at the event but you’ll need to bring cash to cover your fees. One advantage to online registration is saving $5 per registration.
Barrileigh told us what the rules were for Floaty participants.
Floatation inflation will be available at the start in Optimist Park, so all you really need is your floaty, crew and you’ll be good to go.
Barry told us that once again this year Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services, along with community emergency partners will be on hand to help anyone who runs into trouble along the river.
Adamson said safety is always top of mind.
Once again this year, the Fannyville Race Village at Barrett Street Bridge and Cavan Street will be a big attraction for spectators and those not braving the icy waters of the Ganaraska and all your favourites will be returning including the Adventure Zone. Marty and the Mojos will also be on hand to keep everyone entertained while waiting for everyone to complete the river challenges.
