Volunteers from Helping Hands Northumberland are seen here at an ENSS environmental science class teaching students how to make sleeping mats from milk bags. The ENSS Environmental Club is hosting a special Earth Day event in Memorial Park Monday, April 22, 2024.
There will be a special celebration downtown Monday as youth at ENSS lead the charge for “Earth Day in Brighton.”
“Our Earth Day event is looking promising and the environmental club students are excited to be hosting this event,” said Anne Falla, an ENSS teacher and the school’s environmental club staff advisor.
The ENSS Environmental Club planned the celebration in the park – even presented their plans to council earlier this year.
Youth will shine a light on environmental issues through various mediums and with help from the community.
They’ve also put the call out to residents, saying all are invited to show their support for Earth Day.
Organizers have rallied multiple groups that will be set up in the park as part of the celebration in honour of Earth Day.
At the event, residents will be able to catch up and learn from the Brighton Garden Club, Blue Dot Northumberland, the Brighton sustainability committee, the Friends of Presqu’ile, Charlen Farms, the Rotary Club of Brighton, Brighton Beaver Scouts, and more.
Attendees can also learn about the Mayor’s Keep the County Clean Challenge and how targets are up this year.
The event runs from noon to 2 p.m. at Memorial Park on Earth Day (Monday, April 22, 2024.)
There will be music by “Downbeat,” displays, treats (while they last), maybe some environmentally-friendly fashion-inspired fun thanks to Brighton Public School students, and more.
The Earth Day guest speaker is Brighton resident Ian Shanahan.
Attendees should bring their own lawn chairs. There will be presentations and learning components, but also entertainment. The concert will follow presentations.
The event is free to attend.
