Following up on last year’s success, the Goose Ball is returning this weekend to Port Hope.
This year’s theme is Art in the Natural World, and you’re invited to dress up and strut you stuff on the red carpet this Saturday in the Fall Fair Centre at the Town Park Recreation Centre.
Taking inspiration from the Met Gala, the Goose Ball brings the fun of a gala experience to everyone and will include food, festivities and the signature red carpet walk to show off your style. Organized by Critical Mass, the event will kick off the 2024 programming season for the Port Hope-based not-for-profit arts organization.
Everyone is invited to dress as their favourite artist, artwork, take inspiration from nature, or simply to ‘be the art’. While dressing up is encouraged, it’s not mandatory. Come as you feel your best.
Critical Mass Program Director Debbie Beattie told us the Goose Ball was inspired by Morgan Kroeger
According to Beattie, its a riff on the Met Gala.
Stepping into the Port Hope Fall Fair Centre guests will immerse themselves in an artistically interpreted Natural World for an enjoyable evening of celebration suitable for the whole family. Highlights include delectable fries from the Bewdley Lions’ food truck, a Public Runway Show & Costume Contest featuring ball guests, a celebrity-worthy slo-mo ‘Strut Cam’ shoot by Two Blue Shirts Productions, a charming photo booth, lively tunes courtesy of DJ Del, exciting ‘vogueing’ and runway tips from Drag artists, a Special Performance by Drag Artist Sanjina from Out TV’s ‘Call me Mother,’ live landscape painting with Luke Despatie, engaging art activations and crafts, and the unveiling of the Critical Mass 2024 Programming lineup!
Hosted by emcees Babe & Oliver, alongside comedian Cliff Myers, you can expect an evening brimming with laughter and entertainment.
Beattie shared some insight on this year’s theme.
The fun starts at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 11th and tickets are $15 for students, $25 for individuals and $40 for a household of up to 5. Funds raised from the event will support the Critical Mass summer residency program and efforts to bring free arts programming and experiences to the community.
