Step Up for Mental Health, sponsored by Cameco, understands the critical need for mental health resources in the local community. The funds raised from the annual run and other events contribute to the Cameco Fund for Mental Health. This fund supports projects and programs aimed at enhancing mental health services in Northumberland County.
VP of Cameco’s Fuel Services Division Dale Clark told us why Cameco began the run.
Scheduled for May 11 at Victoria Park in Cobourg, this year’s run offers a chance for community members to come together for a meaningful cause. Participants can enjoy a scenic route showcasing Cobourg’s historic downtown and waterfront parks. Registration includes a running t-shirt, sweatshirt, bag, and medal.
Students aged 8-17 can register for $30, receiving a sweatshirt, bag, and medal. Individuals dealing with mental health issues or addictions, along with their support person, can participate for free upon registration. Each entry fee, matched by Cameco, supports the Cameco Fund for Mental Health, administered by the Saskatoon Community Foundation.
Clark told us how the money raised is used.
Those unable to join the run can still contribute through donations or pledges. Donations of $20 or more qualify for a tax receipt. In 2023, the Cameco Fund for Mental Health distributed $88,000 to local organizations, benefitting various groups such as students, families, and frontline workers.
According to Clark, it’s not too late to participate.
