Northumberland Paramedics celebrates Paramedic Services Week from May 19-25.
“Paramedic Services Week is a reminder of the unwavering dedication of the Northumberland Paramedic team to this community,” states County Warden Brian Ostrander. “These intensively-trained professionals play a crucial role in the wellbeing of Northumberland residents and visitors. During times of need and distress, paramedics are there to support us and our loved ones by providing vital medical care, compassion, and empathy. During Paramedic Services Week, we take a moment to thank Northumberland Paramedics for their service, and we celebrate their immense skill, commitment and resilience.”
The theme “Help Us, Help You” emphasizes community support during emergencies.
You’re invited to have your kids join in by helping to decorate local paramedic bases with their artwork to honor paramedicine professionals.
Northumberland Paramedics Chief Susan Brown tells us they’re hoping to make a lasting connection with Northumberland’s youngest citizens.
Children aged 10 and under can participate in an art contest by downloading the drawing page at Northumberland Paramedics Art Contest: Help Us, Help You.
Submit drawings by May 22 for a chance to win prizes.
Brown tells us the contest is a way to help kids learn more about paramedics.
In development for several years now is something called the Northumberland Paramedics’ Community Paramedicine program. Brown tells us more.
The program provides non-emergency health care services to residents in their homes, offering preventive care to vulnerable community members and seniors. This initiative aims to alleviate pressure on emergency services, hospitals, and clinics by addressing health needs before they escalate.
According to Brown, since its inception, the program has served over 5000 residents. You can learn more here: Community Paramedicine – Northumberland County.
And mark May 25 on your calendar to visit Northumberland Paramedics at the Cobourg Farmers Market from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. You’ll be able to explore an ambulance, meet paramedics, and enjoy children’s activities with EarlyON Northumberland.
Chief Brown recommends community members prepare for emergencies through the following actions:
· Ensure your property has a visible civic address marker;
· Teach your children how and when to call 9-1-1; and
· Ensuring children know their home address and phone number.
“Paramedic Services Week is a great opportunity for our Paramedic team to connect with local families and share important information with the community,” states Northumberland Paramedics Chief Susan Brown. “This year’s theme, ‘Help Us, Help You,’ highlights the importance of being prepared in case of an emergency. Preparation can save valuable time during an emergency.”
Kids can also meet Terry the Traumasaurus from 10-11 a.m. for a photo opportunity!
