Brighton’s Blue Dragons’ track and field team has won another overall COSSA Championship title.
The East Northumberland Secondary School (ENSS) track and field team won the 2024 COSSA overall team title with 467 points over second-place finishers St. Peter Catholic Secondary School with 333 points. Bayside Secondary School secured third place with 252 points, the school announced in a recent press release.
The ENSS boys also won their division with 274 points over Bayside in second, with 164.5 points, while Eastside Secondary School finished third with 117.5 points.
The ENSS girls also triumphed with a second-place finish in their division, with 193 points. St. Peter CSS took the first-place spot with 222 points.
More than 32 schools competed at the championships held in Peterborough.
Just before this, ENSS also secured its 38th consecutive Bay of Quinte track and field team title.
Individual COSSA champions from ENSS include Dominic Rittwage who took first in the junior 200 metre and first in the 400 metre, as well as third in the 100 metre.
Owen McDougall secured a first-place finish in the junior 1,500 and the 3,000 metres.
Aidan Molenhuis also took home multiple wins, including first for the seniors in the 100-metre hurdles, second in the 400-metre hurdles, and second in high jump.
Jetayah Casselman soared to first place in the senior high jump and won second in the 100 metre and took fourth in the 100-metre hurdles.
Sullivan Tait was the victor for the novice 3,000 metre, and took home third in the 800 metre and fourth in the 1,500 metre.
In novice javelin, Seth Black landed first. Black also took third in shot put.
For junior discus, Liam Adman earned a first-place win.
Grayson Graham triumphed in the 300-metre hurdles.
ENSS senior girls’ 4-by-100 metre relay team, made up of Kylie Rittwage, Ava Allanson, Willow Bohrson, and Casselman scooped first with a time of 53.85 seconds.
A total of 46 ENSS athletes, including seven relay teams, also finished in the top six at COSSA, said coaching staff.
Top six finishers compete at the OFSAA East Regional qualifying meet in Belleville.
