A very familiar name to sports fans of hockey in Peterborough came away with a major prize at the Canadian Screen Awards.
Rob Snoek, who called Pete’s games on the radio from 2011 to 2019 on CJMB-FM (formerly EXTRA 90.5, now FREQ 90.5), received the ‘Best Sports Play by Play’ honour.
Snoek says the moment really came as a surprise.
As part of his very humble style, the former athlete turned broadcaster says he doesn’t deserve all the credit.
Snoek, who works with the CBC, edged out Chris Cuthbert, Scott Russell, Rod Smith and Signa Butler.
Prior to his career behind the microphone, the Orono-native was a competitor at the 1992 Summer Paralympics, the 1996 Summer Paralympics and the 2000 Summer Paralympics. He also won silver and bronze medals at the Paralympic edition of the World Athletics Championships in 1998.
